Hi all,
New to the forum and a new Tiguan owner, I have my Tiggy since the end of July, when i first got it there was like a burning plastic smell when I stopped driving, I googled it and it appeared to be normal, i noticed the smell again today and rang my local dealer who have told me this isn't normal and there haven't been any burning smells reported from the new Tiguan's and have advised me not to drive the car and to have break down assist collect the car. Has anyone else experienced this? Its a 2ltr TDI automatic.
Thanks a mill.

Being a TDi , it’s not from DPF regeneration is it? Does it happen on every trip.
My first Tig, a 2017 2.0 TDi used to smell a bit like that when the DPF regeneration kicked in.

If doing dpf regen, then idle speed will bit higher and likely that the cooling fan will run after switching off the car if the regen has not finished

I was thinking it could be a dpf regen, but surely the dealership would know that?? No harm in getting it checked just incase

You’d have thought so, but elan2s point is valid.
Hope you can get to the bottom of it soon.

Never ceases to amaze me how little dealers know about the cars they sell

Owner of new VW Tiguan, R line, 2,0. Just bought it few days ago.
Same thing happened to me yesterday. Burning plastic smell followed by cooler work.
NewTiggyONR, What was it at the end in your case?

you should know if the car is regenerating by the heat.
When you open the driver door to get out you will find your feet will be warm by the heat.
And the fan will be on trying to cool down the car.

I got a bit of a burning smell from mine but only on the first journey and haven’t smelt it since.
I do notice a lot of heat at both front wings, most especially the driver side (RHD car) after a drive however.
