I am confusing myself too at times!
I was really simply asking what other peoples experience was when they got into their car but didn't put their seat belt on. Did their car go forward and backward.
Mine doesn't! You have all said that yours does. That answers my question.
A VW Tech told me yesterday that in that situation the car should not move - that is categorically wrong so if VW try to palm me off I will stand up to them. I don't think the VW Tech was deliberately trying to confuse me, I think I was the first Mk3 he had been to and he was making an assumption.
I can get into my car and demonstrate this problem easily.
Further to this, my car will also not move forward or back - intermittently - when the seat belt is on. I cannot demonstrate this problem but the VW Tech did see it happen.
According to the VW Tech, the car is not showing any significant fault codes. The car is now in a VW garage and I'm waiting to hear how their investigation is going.
Seat Belt question
I have been given some dodgy information by my VW Dealer, that have told me that my Mk3 Tiguan is a CT134A variant and a bulletin has been issued for that variant which states that it will not drive if the seat belt is not on.
After getting the car home and reviewing the bulletin, what it actually says is
"
The new Tiguan (type CT1*) and new Passat (type CJ5) have extensive self-diagnosis and safety functions.
The overriding goal here is to secure the vehicle against rolling away when the driver is getting out.
-If the airbag control unit (diagnosis address 0015) does not detect a seat occupation via the seat-occupied recognition sensor of the driver airbag
and/or
-the belt fastening detection does not detect the fastening of the driver seat belt
and/or
-the closed driver door is open,
then the electronic parking brake is activated
Notice
If at least two of the three requirements above apply, the leaving concept intervenes and the electronic parking brake is automatically activated.
"
So it is not just the seat belt not being on that stops the car from being driven!

My VIN does contain CT3R but they told me it is a CT134Z and that along with the full VIN is on the printout they gave me. CT134Z is listed as a Sales code
My point is they said my car will not move if the seat belt is not on when in fact it is 2 conditions which causes this

Hmm, maybe this is an Ireland/EU thing, you can find that code here..

I can’t find anything similar on VW UK, but I find it hard to believe that they have created individual software for the UK, I would have thought we all get the same.
Edit, just realised your vehicle was UK supplied so it cannot be any different to any other UK vehicle. I reckon your dealer is gaslighting.
