Hi All.

I was wondering if other drivers have experienced any issues with the exterior wing mirrors and the heating function on these?

In simple terms, the function on my new Elegance seems to not be working as it should, at least as far as I can tell. I'm not convinced the mirrors are heating up, based on testing and using them on recent drives - there is a lack of heat on the mirror itself and they aren't effective at clearing condensation/moisture. Compared to to the mirrors on my mk2.5 (which heated quickly), they seem very ineffective.

Has anyone else observed similar challenges? I don't think I'm missing anything, based on my reading of the manual or owning previous VWs (Tiguans and Golfs) and the wing mirror heating should be simply operated by the dial on the driver's door (i.e. it's not dependent on other functions being turned on such as the rear window heating).

I've also had an issue with squeaky folding mirrors, but have resolved this with some silicone based WD40!

The car will go in to the dealer in December for an investigation, but just wondered if there might be a simpler fix!

Works fine on my car. Had mk2 tiguan before and it worked the same way as on mk3.

I have had exactly the same issue as you but only on the drivers side mirror. The passenger side mirror seems fine. For example if I get in the car and both mirrors are condensed, I turn on heating and within a minute or 2 the passenger side is clear but there’s been very little change on the drivers side. I’m not convinced it’s working although difficult to prove as sometimes it seems better than others. I also had the same issue with both squeaking and also fixed it with WD40. Please keep me up to date with what they decide to do with yours as I may have to take mine in for investigation too. Cheers.

On mine, they take ages to clear any fog or frost, almost like they’re barely working. Double-check if there’s a separate fuse for the mirror heating; I’ve heard of those blowing and causing issues. Otherwise, it might just be a quirk of the newer system.

I noticed that when my car is stationary and I turn on the heated mirrors, they work fine. However, when the car is moving and I activate the heating, it doesn’t work. It's really frustrating. I wonder why this German manufacturer is struggling.

I've also booked a second attempt to fix the front sensor error. Hopefully, they can resolve it this time.

Thanks for your replies on this. Like other things on the car, it's hard to decipher the problem, and to understand if this is how the car should actually function!

The latest with the car is that it's booked in to have it looked at the end of the month. In the meantime, it seems to be working ok, but I'm struggling to 'trust' the functionality. Generally the mirrors will heat when stationary, but there will be the odd occasion where they seem to do little (i.e. if I turn them on mid journey). The manual provides little detail about the function, and the ambient temperature at this time of year in the UK is certainly not the problem. When they do work, the temperature of the mirror seems lower than on my Mk2.5, which would get noticeably hot.

I'll keep you posted with what garage visit and what that may uncover.
