Hi, got my new shape R-Line a few days ago on a 3 year lease. When I was reversing out of my drive the car detected a flower sticking out from the hedge, and decided to nearly break my back by using the emergency stop feature. I turned off all assists and it didn't happen again. Removed the flower, and got back in the car the next day, reversed out the drive, same thing happened. Do I have to turn assists off each time I get into the car? It's really annoying and could be a deal breaker for me.
Thanks

It will detect pedestrians and moving vehicles as potential hazards and brake if it thinks there might be a collision. Only recommendation would be to reverse into your driveway, as recommended in the Highway Code, that way you are not going to encounter unseen hazards when driving out onto the road. Appreciate however that the road you love on may not make that practical.

The rear cross traffic detection which applies the brake is the only assist feature I have found to be an issue, but now I understand how it works I seem to be able to work around it - stopping if I see a pedestrian or car moving close (10m or so) to the vehicle and then proceeding slowly or allowing them to pass. All the other assist systems seem fine other than the noise from all the sensors when parking in a space. That said the accuracy of the speed limit detection is appalling and god help us all if this is the future of autonomous driving.

It happens when reversing as well as going forward. It detects a small flower, which is at least a foot away, and slams the breaks on. Other cars don't have this feature, so i'm not sure why they couldn't have made it optional.

Your's seems to exhibiting strange behaviour. The only option I could suggest would be to take you car to the dealer a nd drive your own back to back with a demonstrator (they hopefully have) and see if both cars behave the same way or if yours is behaving abnormally
